CleantechVeteran Keith Gillard to Lead SUSTAERO as CEO
[Vancouver, Canada, 2025 March 11]
Following the formal incorporation of SUSTAERO, the company is pleased to announce that founderKeith Gillard will serve as Chief Executive Officer. A seasoned leader in the clean technology and chemistry-focused venture capital sectors, Gillard assumes this role to direct the development of what is aimed to be Canada’s first billion-litre-per-year wood to Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) platform designed to solve the critical vulnerability gap in global energy supply chains.
Gillard brings over two decades of experience in scaling high-impact environmental technologies and bridging the gap between innovative engineering and institutional capital. He is the former president of BASF Venture Capital America, who previously managedMitsubishi Corporation’s clean energy practice, and the co-founder and chair ofForesight, Canada’s largest cleantech accelerator. His appointment as CEO ensures that SUSTAERO’s strategic direction is rooted in a deep understanding of both capital markets and technical requirements of large-scale infrastructure deployment. Under his leadership, the company will focus on the industrial application of a proprietary thermochemical conversion process optimized for boreal forestry residuals.
"The aviation industry requires more than just lower carbon footprints; it requires an absolute certainty of supply," says Keith Gillard. "SUSTAERO was founded to provide that certainty. By localizing manufacturing and using plentiful domestic inputs, this company is building a fuel supply chain that is fundamentally secure. The mission is to deliver an industry-leading ultra-lowCarbon Intensity score while eliminating the risks associated with international maritime and geopolitical volatility."
The announcement follows the initial feasibility validation of the project’s high-yield syngas-to-jet pathway. As CEO, Gillard will oversee the expansion of the project’s engineering phase and the formalization of strategic academic and industrial partnerships. The leadership structure is designed to move the company rapidly toward its production target, establishing a new benchmark for secure, low-carbon aviation energy in North America.
