SUSTAERO Chief Executive Officer Keith Gillard concluded a series of presentations this week at the SAF North American Congress, the premier gathering for the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) supply chain. SUSTAERO held the honour of being the only Canadian SAF startup invited to present at the Congress, signaling the company’s rising profile within the international energy landscape.
On October 16, Gillard discussed the critical role of regional industrial resilience in the future of flight from the keynote stage. His address focused on how SUSTAERO and other Canadian SAF innovators are leveraging Canada’s many advantages create a secure, domestic energy supply that is independent of geopolitical risk.
Earlier that same day, SUSTAERO was featured at the Canadian Breakfast Briefing. During this targeted session, Gillard presented the SUSTAERO model to a select group of international investors and airline executives, detailing the company’s progress toward its billion-litre production capacity goal.
"Being selected as the sole Canadian startup to present is a significant validation of our approach," says Gillard. "The SAF Congress is where the world’s leading airlines, producers, and policymakers meet to define the future. Representing the Canadian ecosystem at this level allowed us to showcase how we are turning domestic wood waste into a high-value, strategic asset for the entire world."
The presentation highlighted SUSTAERO’s unique brownfield strategy, which involves repurposing existing industrial infrastructure, such as shuttered pulp and paper mills. This approach, combined with the integration of renewable hydroelectricity, allows SUSTAERO to achieve industry-leading carbon conversion rates while revitalizing local economies.
"The interest from the many airlines we met with at the Congress confirms that the market is hungry for SAF solutions that go beyond food-based feedstocks," added Gillard. "By focusing on forestry residuals and green hydrogen, SUSTAERO is providing the technical clarity and supply chain security the industry needs to reach its net-zero targets."
